Publications Earn National Recognition
Marksmen received recognition for their publications and shared their ideas with fellow student journalists at the Journalism Education Association/National Scholastic Press Association's national convention, held in Kansas City earlier this month.
Students attended workshops and conference sessions from various instructors and journalism professionals at the convention and entered their work in national competitions. Students attending, all juniors, were Asher Babilla, Will Clifford, Henry Estes, Teddy Fleiss, Jack Frary, Lawrence Gardner, Charlie Gordy, Matthew Hofman, Akash Manickam, Oliver Peck, Arjun Poi, Hilton Sampson, Vikram Singh, Joseph Sun and Neil Yapuri.
Lawrence Gardner, Matthew Hofmann and Hilton Sampson were invited to speak on a panel about the award-winning ReMarker at the conference.
Vikram Singh, Neil Yepuri, Asher Babilla and Arjun Poi were finalists in the conference’s Quiz Bowl competition. The ReMarker website, which launched in September 2023, won its first national award at the convention.

The program came home with the following awards:
- Focus Magazine – 3rd place Best in Show
- ReMarker newspaper (March edition) – 3rd place Best in Show
- smremarker.com – 6th place Best in Show
- Linyang Lee and Josh Goforth won first place in magazine design.
- Zack Goforth, Grayson Redmond and Will Clifford won 7th place in newspaper design.
In addition to these awards, the program received the following recognition from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in March:
- Silver Crown for the 2023 Marksmen Yearbook
- Silver Crown for the 2023-24 ReMarker newspaper
- 1st place Gold circle for Grayson Redmond in news design
- Honorable mention, Gold circle for Ben Adams in sports news writing
- Honorable mention, Gold circle for Aaron Augustine for editorial writing
Finally, ReMarker online editor Ben Adams was named “Online Editor of the Year” by the Interscholastic League Press Conference and will receive that award at the annual convention on April 20 in Austin.
Publications adviser Jenny Creech and College Counseling associate director Josh Shandera accompanied the boys. In addition to attending the convention, the boys also took in a Kansas City Royals game.
