The band and orchestra programs offer boys the chance to express their creative sides while learning new technical skills associated with instruments.
Orchestra
The orchestra program offers a comprehensive string education for Middle and Upper School boys. Beginning in fifth grade, multiple levels of violin, viola, cello and double bass instruction are available to challenge students at any level. As their technique and musicianship skills progress, students have the opportunity to participate in recitals and share their talents with the school community. In Upper School, orchestra students rehearse and perform standard string orchestra literature and chamber music, from Baroque to Contemporary, with emphasis on expression and style.
Band
Students begin their musical education by selecting an instrument and learning musical notation, technical instruction, and simple music theory. In intermediate courses, students continue to work on all major scales and sight reading. In Upper School, band students also have the chance to perform at home varsity football games and school pep rallies.
Band and orchestra students perform regularly in concerts, in addition to providing music at some all-school convocations and assemblies. Each year, Marksmen earn seats in various Texas Private School Music Educators Association, Texas Music Educators Association and the Association of Texas Small School Bands’ auditioned ensembles.
