Marksmen Support Hurricane Recovery
As communities along the Gulf Coast continue recovering from Hurricane Harvey, Marksmen are doing what they can to help out their fellow Texans. The Community Service Board’s annual Clothing Drive began two weeks after Harvey’s landfall, providing the perfect opportunity to give back. In total, more than 3,100 pounds of clothes were collected for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, who will distribute the donations to the affected areas.

“It’s amazing how much our small community could pull together in just two weeks to try to help thousands of people in desperate need,” said Jack Katz ’19, who chaired the Clothing Drive along with Rohan Vemu ’18 and Toby Nwafor ’20. “The community managed to surpass our goal by more than a thousand pounds.”
In the Lower School, the youngest Marksmen organized an additional response, dubbed the Harvest for Harvey Gift Card Drive. Students donated nearly 100 gift cards to stores like Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Wal-Mart, totaling more than $2,300. The gift cards will be delivered to the coastal communities of Rockport, Port Aransas, and Ingleside.
“Our boys are learning empathy and generosity as they help their fellow Texans on the Gulf Coast,” said Head of Lower School Sherri Darver. “This amazing community has once again made me exceptionally proud to be a member here.”
Marksmen living in the Houston area also received a visit from St. Mark's as part of the Alumni and Development Office's Central Texas travel. During a luncheon on September 18, traveling faculty from St. Mark's passed out notes of encouragement hand-written by members of the sixth-grade Class of 2024.
