50th Reunion Marks Milestone

During Alumni Weekend in April 2017, the Class of 1967 celebrated its 50th Reunion. Fifty classmates attended the Reunion, several of whom were returning to St. Mark's for the first time since graduation. Classmates enjoyed all of the weekend's activities, from the Golf Tournament to the Saturday Cookout. On Friday evening, Mary Noel and Bill Lamont ’67 opened their home to classmates and faculty guests for a special Reunion dinner.

The Reunion planning has been long anticipated. The 22-person Reunion Committee, led by Frank St. Claire ’67, began discussing plans and ideas more than a year ago. Lunch meetings at the School became a regular occasion, and Committee members attempted to reach out to every classmate to encourage attendance at the April events.

When excitement began to build, they also saw an opportunity to double the Class of 1967 Financial Aid Fund of $400,000, established ten years ago. The Class came together in strong fashion and, to date, have raised more than $900,000, including $260,000 in deferred commitments, toward their $1 million goal. This fund will make a significant impact that will benefit and inspire Marksmen for generations to come.

“Who would have thought that a disparate group of adolescent boys in 1967 could become a truly non-disparate team of men in 2017, who would make the commitment to help other adolescent boys become men?” asked Reunion Committee member Dave Morris ’67. “Providing scholarships for these boys has to be one of life's higher callings.”

In addition to their Fund, the Class of 1967 rallied around compiling a class yearbook, where each classmate had the opportunity to share their journey after St. Mark’s with recent photos, next to their senior photo.

"The yearbook provided the linchpin for our 50th Class Reunion by allowing each classmate to share their life experiences,” Frank St. Claire noted. "While the fabric and texture of these compelling personal narratives illustrated the diversity of our life paths, it also provided the nexus for renewed friendships in a way no single class dinner could ever achieve."
