Middle School Awards Announced

On May 24, 2016, Middle School students ended the year with a special final assembly. Head of Middle School Warren Foxworth ’66 announced several awards and presented the eighth grade Class of 2020.

 

The Thomas B. Walker III, Class of ’73 Middle School Cup is presented to a young man who has worked hard to attain high academic achievement and has ably represented the school in athletics and fine arts. Because of his good citizenship and character, he has earned the warm respect of his peers and teachers. The 2016 recipient of the Middle School Cup is Charlie Rubarth ’20.

 

The Thomas B. Walker III, Class of ‘73 Outstanding Scholar Award is presented to an eighth grade student who has demonstrated superior mastery of his subjects. He is recognized for his inquisitive mind and his dedicated quest for knowledge. This year’s recipient for the Outstanding Scholar Award is Devan Patel ’20.

 

The Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Medal is presented each year to an eighth grader who has demonstrated the qualities of honor, service, courage, and leadership.  This year’s recipient of The Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Medal is Tony D’Apice ’20.

 

The Athlete of the Year Award is presented to an eighth grade student who has demonstrated outstanding athletic ability in several Middle School varsity sports.  Through his high standards of sportsmanship, he has exhibited the positive leadership skills St. Mark’s desires to instill in all of its athletes. The recipient of the Athlete of the Year Award is Paxton Scott ’20.

 

The Hunt Silcock Award is presented in memory of Hunt Silcock and in honor of his class, the Class of 2008, to a seventh-grade student who exemplifies the traits of honor and integrity, intellectual enthusiasm and academic excellence, athleticism and sportsmanship, and citizenship and character that Hunt displayed throughout his life. The recipient of The Hunt Silcock Award is Aayan Khasgiwala ’21.

 

The Path to Manhood Award is presented to fifth, sixth, and seventh grade students who demonstrate a strong commitment to academic pursuits, exhibit a genuine concern for others, and are dedicated to the ideals of courage and honor. From the Class of 2023 the faculty recognized Patrick Flanagan, Svanik Jaikumar, and Christian Youst. From the Class of 2022, the faculty recognized Sal Abbasi, Enoch Ellis, and Zach Lightfoot. From the Class of 2021, the faculty recognized Sid Sinha and Sarbik Saha.

 

The Middle School faculty also recognized four members of the Class of 2020 whose contributions to St. Mark’s have been exceptional and who have demonstrated special talents and skills above and beyond the norm.

 

Because of his stellar performance in academics, athletics, and the arts, in recognition of a genuine desire to move the class forward, and by virtue of his outstanding personal character, the Middle School Faculty wish to bestow special recognition to Colin Campbell ’20.

 

Because of his unflagging diligence and determination, in recognition of his steadfast devotion to the school’s mission, and by virtue of his unconditional positive respect for all, the Middle School Faculty wish to bestow special recognition to Romil Mathur ’20.

 

Because of his unrelenting positive attitude, in recognition of his willingness to do what is right, not necessarily what is easy, and by virtue of his enthusiasm for learning, the Middle School Faculty wish to bestow special recognition to John David McClain ’20.

 

Because of his dedicated pursuit of knowledge and ideas, in recognition of his desire to perform at the highest level in all that he does, and by virtue of his unflinching commitment to honor and integrity, the Middle School Faculty wish to bestow special recognition to Tianming Xie ’20.
