Middle School Awards Announced

On May 27, 2015, Middle School students ended the year with a special final assembly. Head of Middle School Warren Foxworth ’66 announced several awards and presented the eighth grade Class of 2019.

 

The Thomas B. Walker III ’73 Middle School Cup is presented to a young man who has worked hard to attain high academic achievement and has ably represented the school in athletics and fine arts. Because of his good citizenship and character, he has earned the warm respect of his peers and teachers. The recipient of the Middle School Cup for 2015 was Parker Davis ’19.

 

The Athlete of the Year Award is presented to an eighth grade student who has demonstrated outstanding athletic ability in several Middle School sports. Through his high standards of sportsmanship, he has exhibited the positive leadership skills St. Mark’s desires to instill in all of its athletes. This year’s Athlete of the Year Award was presented to Blake Rogers ’19.

 

The Middle School Citizenship Award is presented each year to an eighth grader who has demonstrated the qualities of honor, service, courage, and leadership. The Middle School Citizenship Award was presented to Robert Newman ’19.

 

The Thomas B. Walker III ’73 Outstanding Scholar Award is presented to an eighth grade student who has demonstrated superior mastery of his subjects. He is recognized for his inquisitive mind and his dedicated quest for knowledge. The Outstanding Scholar Award was presented to Ruoming Fan ’19.

 

The Hunt Silcock Award is presented in memory of Hunt Silcock and in honor of his class, the Class of 2008, to a seventh-grade student who exemplifies the traits of honor and integrity, intellectual enthusiasm and academic excellence, athleticism and sportsmanship, and citizenship and character that Hunt displayed throughout his life. The Hunt Silcock Award was presented to Colin Campbell ’20.

 

The Path to Manhood Award is presented fifth, sixth, and seventh grade students who demonstrate a strong commitment to academic pursuits, exhibit a genuine concern for others, and are dedicated to the ideals of courage and honor. From the Class of 2022, the faculty recognized Daniel Uglunts, Will Pechersky, and Caleb Vanzant. From the Class of 2021, the faculty recognized Sarbik Saha, Daniel Sanchez, and Michael Vanesco. From the Class of 2020, the faculty recognized Devan Patel and Charlie Rubarth.

 

The Middle School faculty also recognized four members of the Class of 2019 whose contributions to our school have been exceptional and who have demonstrated special talents and skills above and beyond the norm. Because of his superb work ethic, in recognition of his inquisitiveness and willingness to explore new ideas, and by virtue of his humble nature and kindness to others, the Middle School Faculty wish to bestow special recognition to Matthew Coleman ’19. Because of his academic prowess, in recognition of his contributions in multiple areas of school life, and by virtue of his excellent citizenship and cheerful attitude, the Middle School Faculty wish to bestow special recognition to Sahit Dendekuri ’19. Because of his perseverance and his dedication to the process of learning, in recognition of his unwavering focus and his tenacious pursuit of excellence, and by virtue of his humility while maximizing the educational opportunities presented to him, the Middle School Faculty wish to bestow special recognition to Antonio Ivarra ’19. Because of his excellent academic record, in recognition of his exemplifying personal standards of decency and respect, and by virtue of his willingness to stand for what is right at all times, the Middle School Faculty wish to bestow special recognition to Lyle Ochs ’19.
