New Organ Plays First Chapel Service
After months of preparation, St. Mark’s Chapel once again welcomed students inside for services. As Middle Schoolers piled inside for their semiweekly chapel, all eyes turned up to the newly installed organ, ready for its first chapel service.
Science teacher Paul Hoehn offered a special chapel talk on the physics of the organ and the power of curiosity before declaring that the time for curiosity was over. As choirmaster Tinsley Silcox led the middle school choristers in “Bless Thou the Lord,” organist Glenn Stroh accompanied them on the new organ. Afterwards, Mr. Stroh concluded chapel by performing J.S. Bach’s “Fugue in C Minor.” While the organ is still being voiced, only selections that fall in the range of the tuned pipes can be played. As the voicing process continues, the widening range will allow new selections to be played.
As regular chapel services resume, St. Mark’s will be hosting a series of special events to celebrate the new organ, beginning with the Blessing of the Organ at Evensong on November 9.
