New Crew Hull Christened

Thanks to the continuing generosity of an anonymous donor, St. Mark's christened the newest scull in its rowing fleet, the William Fortieth ’96, named in honor of the former student, crew coach, and faculty member. Standing before a crowd of family, friends, students, and alumni, Will offered his thanks and gratitude to the anonymous donor who has continued to support and strengthen the rowing program at St. Mark's. He also challenged the current team attending the christening to row true and push themselves to become better men both on and off the water.

After graduating from St. Mark's, Will rowed for Cornell University's Lightweight Crew. After earning his Master's in English and teaching for several years, he returned to 10600 Preston Road and eventually became Assistant Head of Middle School. During Will's tenure as crew coach, the team won several state championship titles and even competed in the U.S. Rowing Youth National Championship, finishing sixth in the nation.
