Librarian receives national honor

St. Mark’s head librarian will serve as the next president of the Association of Independent School Libraries (AISL), helping oversee the organization that serves more than 700 libraries across the United States and Canada.  

 

Tinsley Silcox, director of Libraries and Information Services, received this honor at the AISL’s annual conference in Santa Fe, NM, which he attended along with Barbara Kinkead, assistant director of Library and Information Services and Lower School librarian, and Elyse Chevallier, Middle School librarian. 

 

“Leading AISL into the future is a way to encourage and mentor the next generation of caring providers of knowledge and information,” Silcox said, “and to assist our colleagues as they gather the resources needed to discover this amazing world of knowledge in which we live. 

 

As president, Silcox will serve a two-year term and set the agenda for the organization and its board. AISL provides a platform for librarians to connect, answer questions and share resources and hosts professional development conferences and workshops across the country.  

 

In addition to his responsibilities as a librarian, Silcox also serves as Upper School choir director, leading the renowned St. Mark’s Boys Choir in performances both on campus and across the globe.  

 

The Association of Independent School Librarians was formed in 1987 to address the specific needs of librarians in independent schools. Silcox joined its board in 2017 and currently serves as its Annual Conference liaison.
