In the fall of 2020, Arjun Agarwal ’22 and Lawrence Gardner ’25 earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest attainable rank awarded by the Boy Scouts of America.
“Earning Eagle really made me appreciate the dedication and perseverance needed to reach this goal,” said Arjun. “It showed me that I can achieve big goals if I really work at them.”
To achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, each boy had to complete a special community project. Arjun built mile and exercise markers for a track at The Legacy, a non-profit retirement home in Plano. Lawrence decided to build sitting benches for Minnie’s Food pantry, providing rest for families waiting for food assistance.
“We should look at community service as a way of giving back to the community, not just something you have to do”, said Lawrence. “It’s an opportunity to help the community and better those around you.”
In addition to their service project, each boy also had to earn 21 merit badges, serve in a leadership position within their troop, complete an Eagle Scout board review, and demonstrate Scout Spirit by living the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Only four percent of Scouts earn the rank of Eagle.
Arjun and Lawrence are part of Boy Scout Troop 730, which is chartered by St. Mark’s.
