Marksmen Celebrate Their Heritage

The fourth annual Marksmen Multicultural Night brought together students, parents, faculty, and staff to celebrate the numerous cultures represented in the St. Mark’s community. The evening of Wednesday, February 26, 2025, incorporated performances, cuisine, and activities that embodied a variety of histories and traditions.

“Marksmen Multicultural Night is a vibrant celebration of the diverse cultures, traditions, and perspectives that shape our community. I see it as a meaningful opportunity to connect, learn from one another, and deepen our sense of belonging,” Lorre Allen, Director of Inclusion, Diversity, and Human Resources and Sponsor of the Inclusion and Diversity Leadership Council (IDLC) said. “Rooted in culture and blossoming with community, this event honors our shared experiences and reinforces our commitment to an inclusive, welcoming environment where everyone feels valued.”

The IDLC is a student-driven group that aims to foster inclusivity and celebrate diversity in the St. Mark’s community.

“The IDLC offers an unparalleled opportunity to connect with students across campus and strengthen our community," Will Clifford ’25, IDLC co-chair, said. "From Lions Table events to Multicultural Night, we are constantly promoting the inclusion and spread of diverse ideas here that elevate our learning environment."

Bites of the night included Australian Chiko Roll and Anzac, hot chocolate and waffles from Belgium, Cubanos and fried plaintains from Cuba, Ghanian Jollof rice and Red-Red, baked jerk chicken wings and sorrel from Jamaica, matcha lattes and gyoza from Japan, Syrian falafel and Fattoush salad, Dr. Pepper floats, smoked turkey arroz con pollo, and arroz con guandules from Texas and Puerto Rico, Brazilian cheese bread, spicy chicken salad from Thailand, and shortbread cookies from Argentina.

Attendees saw performances from the St. Mark’s choir, the Lower School, Goisagi Daiko, Studio 22, and KeyReel Music.

This year's Marksman Multicultural Night was organized by IDLC co-chairs Will Clifford ’25, Lawrence Gardner ’25, Matthew Hofmann ’25 and Mateo Ubinas ’25 and vice chairs Reagan Graeme ’26, Dilan Koganti ’26, and Ronen Verma ’26.

These students work diligently all year to prepare for Multicultural Night and love seeing the joy it brings the community.

“I have been able to watch this event grow since it started four years ago," said IDLC co-chair Matthew Hofmann ’25. "It is so very encouraging to see how much the event has grown and how much members of our community enjoy it."
