Wrestling
The Lion varsity wrestlers defeated the Kimball High School Knights with a dominant team score of 53-18 on November 20. Of the five matches, the Lions won two outright, with the remaining victories coming by forfeit. After the Thanksgiving break, the team returns to action on Wednesday, December 4. They will wrestle at Episcopal School of Dallas at 2:30 PM before returning home to host Fort Worth Country Day at 5:30 PM in Spencer Gymnasium. This will be the Lions’ first home dual of the season, and they would love your support!
Basketball
The Thanksgiving break was a busy one for varsity basketball, featuring seven games. On Friday, November 22, the Lions hosted Dallas Pinkston. Junior Pranav Danda posted his first double-digit scoring game of the season, adding five rebounds, while senior Lawrence Gardner nearly went perfect from the field with a nine-point, three-assist performance. Senior Luke Laczkowski electrified the crowd with a rare six-dunk game, while sophomores Dawson Battie and AJ Thomas added two highlight slams each, leading to a convincing 76-52 victory for the Lions.
The following morning, the team faced Cedar Hill at “The Matchup,” an event at Rock Hill High School in Prosper. Laczkowski, Danda, and Battie again reached double figures, but Cedar Hill's hot shooting in the clutch pushed the game into overtime, where the Lions ultimately fell.
The team rebounded quickly with four games on Monday and Tuesday at the Fort Worth Christian showcase. Against Nolan Catholic, junior Sam Blumenthal sparked a third-quarter rally, turning a close game into a double-digit win. Later that evening, sophomore Asher Collins scored 11 points, while juniors Spencer Hopkin and Cooper Guiler shone from beyond the arc, leading to another decisive win over Brighter Horizons Academy.
On Tuesday, the Lions faced The Village School and its 6’9” Rice commit. Defensive toughness from senior Henry Estes and offensive firepower from Battie, Danda, and Laczkowski secured a dominant win. The fourth game in 24 hours was against Prince of Peace, who started strong from the perimeter. However, the Lions leaned on defensive intensity and rebounding to pull away in the third quarter. Sophomore AJ Thomas and senior Lawrence Gardner provided energy throughout, sealing the victory.
The final game of the break was part of Thanksgiving Hoopfest, a premier showcase at Duncanville High School. The Lions faced Mansfield Lake Ridge, an undefeated, state-ranked UIL 6A team. Despite injuries and illness, the Lions caught fire from deep, taking a three-point halftime lead. However, foul trouble and costly turnovers in the final moments led to a narrow four-point loss. Laczkowski and Battie combined for an impressive 42 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists.
This week, St. Mark’s will compete in the Knights of Columbus tournament at Jesuit, starting with a matchup against 5A Tascosa (Amarillo) on Thursday at 5:30 PM.
Soccer
The varsity soccer team maintained its unbeaten streak with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over TCA on November 21. Senior Aydin Sumer and sophomore David Dickson scored early to give the Lions the lead, but TCA’s late hustle goal forced the Lions into intense defensive play to preserve the win.
This week, the Lions host Parish Episcopal on Tuesday and take on SPC South Zone rival Kinkaid on Friday at 4:30 PM.
Swimming
The varsity swim team opened its season across the Tollway against Jesuit with a strong showing. All swimmers either set personal bests or came within a second of their best times. Junior Miller Martin impressed with a victory in the 200 Free (1:44.16), just shy of his personal best, and followed up with a 100 Free win (47.53), setting a new personal record. Fellow junior Ethan Wang also excelled, winning the 200 IM in 1:57.92 and placing second in the 100 Butterfly with a St. Mark’s best time of 51.20.
Despite losing 87-84 to a strong Jesuit squad, the Lions are poised for success as the season progresses toward February’s championship meets. Up next, they will host Bishop Lynch on December 12 at 5:45 PM.
