CROSS COUNTRY The varsity cross country team and the volleyball team traveled to Austin over the long weekend. St. Andrew’s, now a part of the North Zone, hosts an annual meet two weeks before SPC, previously known as the “South Zone Championship.” Following their school’s recent transition, St. Andrew’s invited all SPC schools to participate without dividing into divisions. The course was modified due to campus construction, adding to the event’s competitiveness, and the Lions performed impressively. Noah Roby finished 6th, and Jackson Bailey was 19th, earning individual awards. Ten out of the 16 runners achieved personal records or season bests. The Lions secured 8th place out of 14 teams. Next week, the Dallas SPC schools will host the SPC Championships, and St. Mark’s will host the Cross Country meet at Norbuck Park. The St. Mark’s SPC team consists of Noah Roby, Jackson Bailey, Harman Pope, Ailesh Sadruddin, Nathan Aldis, Nicholas Huang, Tiger Yang, Chris Huang, Josh Nunez, and Alex Marczewski. If you see them on campus, wish them luck in next week’s SPC Championship race!
VOLLEYBALL The varsity volleyball team played North Zone counter games last week. The Lions hosted Ft. Worth Country Day on Tuesday, dropping the first game before rallying to win the next three games to secure the match. The team then traveled to Austin with the cross country team to face St. Andrew’s on Friday and St. Stephen’s on Saturday. St. Mark’s swept both Austin schools by a score of 3-0, which makes them 9-1 in SPC counter play, and also secured the North Zone #1 seed at the upcoming SPC Tournament on Nov. 7-9. On Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 6:30 p.m., the Lions will host the Dallas One VB Club for our senior night game.
FOOTBALL Last week, the Lions’ varsity football team traveled to Houston to play Episcopal High School. Despite solid defensive efforts early on, the Lions struggled on offense and were down 0-16 at the half. Ultimately, the Lions could not hold on and fell 7-44 to a first-place EHS squad. Defensively, William Everitt and Noah Williams each recorded ten tackles, including three tackles for loss by Everitt. Lawrence Gardner was able to connect with David McAtee and Noah Williams three times each for a total of 86 yards and a touchdown, but it was not enough to win. The 5-4 Lions return home to finish the season with Senior Night against ESD this Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
