Marksmen Win Chinese Competition

On Saturday, September 30, 2017, 26 Marksmen were recognized as winners in the 2017 Chinese Calligraphy Competition hosted by the Confucius Institute at the University of Texas at Dallas. In addition, Chinese instructor Janet Lin was one of three teachers to receive the Best Instructor Award, and St. Mark’s was one of six schools given the Best School Participation Award.

Students had to submit original works of soft brush calligraphy on rice paper, consisting of 1-20 Chinese characters. Works were judged on the display of calligraphy skills, appropriate word and page structure, and positive text meaning.

In announcing the awards, the Confucius Institute noted that “Chinese calligraphy is an art. It is one of the best ways to appreciate the beauty of Chinese characters and the language.”
