Twelve Marksmen recently returned from Washington, D.C., where they participated in the 2017 Pete Sessions Leadership and Growth Program (PSLGP). Congressman Sessions, who represents Texas’ Thirty-Second Congressional District, hosts the Leadership and Growth Program in Washington, DC every summer during the months of June and July. Students at the high school level participate and are given the opportunity to get an inside look into how our government works.
Participants for the three weeklong sessions included: Benjamin Hurst ’18, Will Kozmetsky ’19, Jack McCabe ’19, Colin Neuhoff ’19, John Rocchio ’19, Blake Rogers ’19, John Harbison ’19, Clay Cassidy ’18, Blake DeSantis ’18, Reagan Jones ’18, Michael Liang ’18, and Adnan Khan ’19.
“Each year I am delighted to welcome students from St. Mark’s to our nation’s capital,” Congressman Sessions said. “These young leaders will undoubtedly be the future pillars of our communities and I look forward to seeing them grow and achieve their goals.”
During their week in Washington, the students visit a number of historical sites including educational tours of the National Portrait Gallery, the Library of Congress, and the Supreme Court. In addition, each program participant has the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities, from visiting the Arlington National Cemetery and the Holocaust Museum to researching and discussing policy issues. They were also able to interact with other leaders in Washington, including Pete Marocco, Dan Newhouse (R-WA-4), Bill Flores (R-TX-17), Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA-3), Mike Conaway (R-TX-11), Bill Shuster (R-PA-9), Doug Andres (Press Secretary for Speaker Paul Ryan), and Greg Walden (R-OR-2).
