Lit Mags Named National Finalists

The Columbia Scholastic Press Association honored St. Mark’s two literary magazines as national finalists. The Marque (Upper School) and The Mini-Marque (Middle School) were among the 56 print magazines nationwide chosen as Finalists for the CSPA’s prestigious Crown Awards, out of more than 1,100 eligible high school and college publications. Finalists are selected for overall excellence in a head-to-head comparison, judged by a panel of experts. All finalists will receive either a Gold or Silver Crown from the CSPA, at their annual convention in March.

This announcement was especially exciting for the staff of The Mini-Marque who received their first-ever Crown status. The literary magazine was one of only six middle school magazines in the nation included in the list of finalists. Last year’s issue was edited by Sam Ahmed ’20 and Charlie Rubarth ’20 and overseen by faculty advisors Megan Frazier and Geoff Stanbury.

This year's recognition is The Marque’s eighth Crown. It has gone on to win a Gold Crown for the last four years. Last year’s issue was edited by Killian Green ’17 and Josh Bandopadhay ’17 and overseen by faculty advisors GayMarie Vaughan and Lynne Weber, Trustee Master Teaching Chair in Humanities.

The Crown finalists for newspapers and yearbooks will be announced later this year.
