After years of Marksmen gathering together in the area, the Los Angeles Alumni Club was formally established earlier this year. Partnering with St. Mark’s Office of Alumni Relations and the Alumni Board, a Regional Committee was formed as the Club’s leadership group, with the primary goal of strengthening the connection between the School and Alumni based in the area.
On June 16, 2016, the Committee hosted its inaugural event at the headquarters of SpaceX, the private aerospace manufacturer and space travel company. Four St. Mark’s graduates currently employed at SpaceX led fellow Marksmen on a private tour through the company’s headquarters and factory floor in Hawthorne, California. Attendees enjoyed connecting with other Marksmen in the area and expressed their gratitude for the unique educational opportunity.
“The Committee is thrilled that our Regional Club launched with such a unique and engaging event,” Los Angeles Committee Chair Reid McGlamery ’96 said. “We look forward to many more events in the area that will offer alumni the ability to connect in interesting and fun ways."
As the Los Angeles Alumni Club builds its programming, Regional Clubs in Austin, New York, the Bay Area, and Washington, D.C. continue to do the same. While the Alumni Office hosts annual gatherings for the Clubs in their respective cities, the Committees organize additional events so that Marksmen are able to stay connected year-round. In June, the New York Regional Committee hosted a reception at the Penn Club welcoming recent college graduates and summer interns to the City.
With more than half of the Alumni Association living outside of North Texas, the Alumni Board and the Alumni Office recognize the need to continue strengthening regional engagement. The Alumni Office will be traveling with members of the faculty in September, hosting events in Houston and Austin, followed by the East Coast Tour in October.
