Marksmen Inducted into Cum Laude Society

On Wednesday, April 20, 2016, St. Mark’s inducted nine members of the Class of 2016 and nine members of the Class of 2017 into the Cum Laude Society. The students were selected on their academic achievement by a committee of student and faculty Cum Laude members. As per the Society’s constitution, up to one-fifth of the senior class and one-tenth of the junior class can be inducted.

Congratulations to seniors Drew Baxley, Ashton Hashemipour, Noah Koecher, Aidan Maurstad, Ammar Plumber, Anvit Reddy, Mitchell So, Abhi Thummala, and Brent Weisberg.

Congratulations to juniors Aiden Blinn, Kevin Choi, Andrew Chuka, Andrew Lin, Rahul Maganti, Rohin Maganti, Patrick Magee, Eddie Yang, and Daran Zhao.

After the new members were inducted, Paul Genender ’87 addressed the students, faculty, and parents. Paul spoke about the importance of embracing failures and turning them into opportunities for growth.

“I stand before you as someone who certainly experienced struggles at St. Mark’s,” he told students. “But the foundation of any successes I later achieved was laid here at St. Mark’s.”

Paul Gender is a trial lawyer with the firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges and advises clients on a wide range of complex cases, including antitrust, real estate, breach of contract, business fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, deceptive trade practice, unfair competition, securities fraud, misappropriation and theft of trade secrets, and complex software litigation. Paul also has extensive experience in federal and state courts in bench and jury trials, and in arbitration proceedings. At St. Mark’s, he was a member of The ReMarker staff, competed on the debate team, and was a multi-sport athlete. He earned his J.D. from Duke University before returning to Dallas to begin his career. Paul remains an active member of the St. Mark’s community, serving on the Alumni Board, chairing his Reunion, and serving as a Class Agent. He is also the proud father of Jack ’21 and George ’23.

Since receiving its Cum Laude Society charter in 1959, the St. Mark’s School of Texas chapter has inducted more than 550 men, a legacy commemorated in the Cum Laude stained glass window in the narthex of the St. Mark’s Chapel.
