Summer Camps End Strong

Like it has done for well over a quarter of a century, St. Mark’s Summer Camps wrapped up its year of sports, science, and fun on Friday, July 13. The six-week program, which offered sports camps from lacrosse to fencing, science camps from rocketry to DNA, and everything from nature photography to sewing to magic, gave hundreds of campers a chance for productive playtime.

Stephen M. Seay ‘68 Science Department Chair Stephanie Barta
directed the Program for the 26th consecutive year, combining Marksmen energy and organization with the fun-filled freedom of the summer months.

Younger campers (ages four through six) enjoyed activities such as story telling, arts and crafts, music, swimming, tumbling, dancing, cooking, and gym games included in their custom-designed programs. Older campers (ages seven through ten) experienced custom designed programs which included drama, ceramics workshops, arts and crafts, sports, swimming, and gym games.

“It gets better every year,” said four-year counselor and lifeguard Ross Crawford ’12, “Watching the kids enjoy themselves in an environment as productive as it is safe has to be one of the highlights of my summer.”
