The final high school wrestling season for Ben Grisz ’08 revolved around perfection after he finished his junior year with an outstanding 54-1 record. Named a Fargo All-American and a Prep Nationals All-American, Ben stands as a dominant wrestler in Texas and has commanded the 189-lbs. division in the SPC and Prep State tournaments during his career.
His senior year proved to be the icing on the cake. After impressive championship victories at SPC and Prep State, Ben traveled with his teammates to Lehigh University to compete in the Prep Nationals tournament, where St. Mark’s placed 9th overall. Seeded first in his weight class and boasting an undefeated record for the year, Ben continued his consecutive wins throughout the bracket, pinned his final opponent in 1 minute, 43 seconds, and captured the Prep Nationals wrestling title.
“He’s just an animal,” said Coach Rick Ortega. “Ben’s best attribute is that he works hard, both in the wrestling room and on his own. He’s a great team leader as well – and very self-motivated.” Congratulations to Ben and the entire St. Mark’s wrestling team for another highly successful season.
