Academic Team earns national acclaim
The St. Mark’s Academic Team recently placed among the top teams at two national competitions.
Over Memorial Day weekend, team members earned eighth in the nation in the High School National Championship Tournament in Atlanta, GA. The eighth-place finish was the local team’s best finish in school history.
Competing against 303 other schools, the team of five juniors was led by co-captains Arnav Lahoti and Aditya Shivaswamy, along with Vardhan Agnihotri, Ethan Bosita and Sohum Sukhatankar.
Then, in early June, team members competed at the PACE (Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence) National Scholastic Championship in Chicago, IL. The competition challenged the boys on a wide range of topics, from guanosine triphosphate to the works of Tchaikovsky.
The Marksmen advanced through the competition to the “superplayoffs,” facing the top-seeded team from Barrington High School (Illinois). The Marksmen had their best performance to date, handing Barrington their only tournament loss.

Following a close tie-breaking game with the Winston Churchill School (Maryland), the Lions ended the Championships fifth out of 72 high school teams.
The team credits its success to the rigor of the St. Mark’s curriculum and the School’s dedication to creating an environment of loving learning.
