As the effects of COVID-19 reverberate around the world, Marksmen have continued to show strength, resiliency, and the desire to make a positive difference. Zubin Mehta ’22 took the initiative to help his community after reading an article about the efforts of the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) to serve vulnerable populations, including individuals recently laid off due to COVID-19. While the community remains largely quarantined, Zubin thought of a way he and others could band together and help the NTFB, while also staying active at home. Working directly with the NTFB, he established the Step Up 4 Hunger Campaign, a virtual fitness and fundraising event taking place May 23–31.
“St. Mark’s values are centered around engaging, serving, and leading. Isolation and social distancing should not prevent us from reimagining how we serve our community and put our time towards a greater good,” said Zubin. “Step Up 4 Hunger connects us with our friends that we don’t get to see daily. We can make a small difference, give where we live, and do good now.”
Zubin’s goal is for participants to log 100,000 steps and to raise $100,000 for the NTFB. With the support of local companies as well as individual donors, Step Up 4 Hunger has already raised enough money to fund 306,000 meals. The NTFB is also seeking Zubin’s help spearheading a Dallas ISD Food Program.
