Film Studies On a Roll
Throughout the 2019–2020 school year, St. Mark’s film studies students have been on a roll, making repeated appearances at film festivals across the countries.
Last fall, the All-American High School Film Festival accepted six of the 12 films St. Mark’s submitted. The Festival received more than 5,000 film entries from 48 states and 40 countries and only selected a handful. The final films were screened at theaters in Times Square in New York City. Additionally, four Marksmen films were accepted into the American Student Film Festival in Tempe, Arizona, held on January 25. This was an impressive feat, especially since this was St. Mark’s very first year submitting to the Festival. Finally, the short film “Skateboarding” by Ricky Rodriguez ’20 was accepted into the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival under the category of Texas High School Shorts. SXSW is one of the nation’s premier film festivals and this is the fourth St. Mark’s film in the past decade to be accepted.

“The boys are incredibly excited, not only for their own achievements but for their fellow Marksmen’s,” said Jennifer Gilbert, St. Mark’s Film Studies Teacher. “When one student gets accepted to a festival, they see it as a win for all of them and for the entire St. Mark’s film program.”
