A Season of Thanksgiving and Gratitude

The holiday season at St. Mark’s concluded with the All-School Christmas Party on Friday, December 20. Seniors entered the Great Hall with their Lower School buddies on their shoulders to decorate the Christmas tree, continuing the decades-old tradition that is embodied in the School’s iconic Path to Manhood statue. After the Christmas tree had been decorated, Student Council President Taylor Hopkin ‘20 announced the successful conclusion of the Gift Drive. He presented 2,232 gifts to a representative from the Salvation Army, surpassing their goal of 2,020 gifts.

This holiday season occurs as construction crews busily work to repair facilities damaged in October’s tornado. Lessons and Carols continued even as scaffolding rose around the bell tower. And after students left for Christmas Break, crews brought heavy machinery onto campus to tear down the remains of Hicks Gym. In the midst of this year’s challenges, Eugene McDermott Headmaster David Dini reminded the community that there is much to celebrate: “In this season of thanksgiving and gratitude, we are continually reminded of the blessings and opportunities that we enjoy — a supportive community of friends who care deeply for our School, tremendous students who challenge us every day to be our best, a strong foundation guided by a clear mission, and a vibrant culture that inspires lofty aspirations and a commitment to continual growth.”
