On June 30, 2018, our community celebrated another successful year for the St. Mark’s Fund. During the 2017–2018 school year, 3,200 alumni, parents, and friends of the School contributed more than $4 million to the St. Mark’s Fund, eclipsing that mark for the second consecutive year and the second time in the history of the School. Each year, gifts to the St. Mark’s Fund account for more than 10 percent of the School’s operating budget and help enhance the St. Mark’s experience for current Marksmen and faculty across campus. The breadth of support from across our community, demonstrated by strong participation numbers, is critical to reinforcing the St. Mark’s mission and ensuring continued excellence.
For the third time in the School’s history, alumni raised more than $2 million in the St. Mark’s Fund, with the 11 Reunion Classes contributing nearly $600,000. The Class of 1973 set 45th Reunion records for both giving and participation, while the Class of 1963 and the Class of 1988 set participation records for the 55th and 30th Reunions, respectively. Additionally, the Class of 2003 set the bar high for future 15th Reunions, becoming the youngest class to reach $100,000. Illustrating the depth of the Alumni Association, each of the 15 young alumni classes (2003-2017) achieved 60 percent participation for the third consecutive year. Overall alumni participation reached 56 percent, surpassing 50 percent for the 10th consecutive year.
Parent participation in this year’s Fund reached 89 percent with 91 percent of new parents joining the effort and growing the tradition of philanthropy celebrated at St. Mark’s.
“Bob and I feel so fortunate to be part of the St. Mark’s family, and watching our son become part of the fabric of the School gives us great confidence in his future” said St. Mark’s Fund Parent Chair Karen Foster. “The traditions of the School, amazing faculty and experiences, everything that makes up St. Mark’s, is in some part possible because of the generous support that families and alumni give to the St. Mark’s Fund. Gifts to The Fund go directly to the operating budget of the School, making it, in my mind, the most important place to contribute. This is the reason that I became a volunteer for The Fund six years ago, and I am more committed than ever to help it grow.”
St. Mark’s is fortunate for the many donors who generously invest in the future of the School and for the countless volunteers who tirelessly give their time and energy. An investment in the St. Mark’s Fund guarantees the necessary resources to provide our boys with an unparalleled experience. Our challenging academic programs, variety of extracurricular opportunities, and world-class facilities are made possible by these gifts. Because of this, St. Mark’s remains a community where boys learn how to be leaders of character and integrity, preparing them to make a positive impact in a competitive and ever-changing world.
