Choir Performs Lessons & Carols

To help ring in the holiday season, St. Mark's Choir sang its 66th Festival of Lessons & Carols on Tuesday, December 12, in the St. Mark's Chapel. The tradition of Lessons & Carols began 99 years ago, when its was first observed in King’s College Chapel on Christmas Eve, 1918. Last night’s service included a special prelude played on the Roosevelt Family Pipe Organ and accompanied by a guest harpist.

The nine lessons recount the Biblical Christmas story and were read by members of the St. Mark’s Community. Each lesson was followed by a carol sung by the Choir or a hymn sung by the whole congregation. The service began with an unaccompanied fifth-grade soloist performing the first verse of “Once in Royal David’s City,” who was selected from the choir moments before performing. The Fourth Grade Novices were also featured in the sixth carol, "This Little Babe."

Continuing in the holiday spirit, the Choir will also be performing at NorthPark Center on Thursday, December 14, at 11:30 a.m. in the Dillard's Courtyard.
