Headmaster Addresses Community

On Wednesday, August 30, Eugene McDermott Headmaster David W. Dini sent the following message to members of the St. Mark's community:

Thanks to so many of you who have expressed care, concern, and a desire to be supportive of our friends in south and southeast Texas who have been hard-hit by Hurricane Harvey over the past few days. Like many others in our community, Nancy and I have deep ties in Houston and other areas along the coast, and we feel for those who have been dealing with the devastation and loss that Harvey has produced. It has been heartbreaking to witness the human tragedy but also inspiring to see citizens pulling together to support one another in such trying times.

During the past several days, we have been in close touch with our alumni and independent school colleagues in the Houston area to offer our prayers and support. As this event is still evolving, we will be partnering with local agencies to determine how to be most helpful to those directly affected by this storm. In addition, we are working in concert with the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS) to assess our capability to take in displaced students, should that be necessary. And, as you know, the Red Cross is on the front line in direct response to the storm, thus financial contributions to this organization certainly make a difference.

It is also important to recognize that our own photography teacher Scott Hunt was deployed down state last week with the Texas State Guard to play a key role in the relief efforts. I know you join me in expressing our collective gratitude to Scott and the many other public servants and first responders for all that they are doing to help those affected by this crisis.

Thank you for your continuing prayers and ongoing support for our friends along the Gulf Coast.

With deepest gratitude,

David W. Dini
