On June 30, 2017, the curtain closed on another record year for the St. Mark’s Fund. During the 2016–2017 fiscal year, more than 3,200 alumni, parents, and friends of the School contributed a record-breaking $4.1 million. Year after year, the School’s annual fund helps to make the St. Mark’s experience extraordinary by contributing more than 10 percent to the operating budget. Participation in the St. Mark’s Fund is an important measure of the overall strength of the School community, and the breadth of support speaks volumes. Community engagement is critical to the St. Mark’s mission and ensures that our campus continues to grow stronger.
For the second time in the School’s history, alumni raised more than $2 million in the St. Mark’s Fund, with the 12 Reunion Classes giving a record $960,000. The Class of 2012 set a record for participation, giving, and the number of gifts at the Young Associate’s level (gifts of $250 or more from alumni who have not yet celebrated their 10th Reunion), contributing more than $32,000 as a Class. The Class of 1987 also set a major giving record, collectively contributing $364,000 by their Reunion in April. Overall alumni participation reached 55 percent, one of the highest in the nation.
Parent participation surpassed its goal of 90 percent for the fourth consecutive year, reaching an outstanding 91 percent and raising more than $1.8 million.
“It’s so evident, from both parent and alumni participation numbers, that we collectively value the experience St. Mark’s gives it's students,” said Karen Foster, St. Mark’s Fund Parent Chair and mother of Ben ’24. “That experience also provides a tremendous sense of family and community at St. Mark’s.”
Thank you to the countless volunteers who worked diligently throughout the year to ensure the community remains connected to the School. Additionally, thank you to our donors who continue to make St. Mark’s a priority. Your investment in the St. Mark’s Fund guarantees that we have the best faculty who provide the boys with an unparalleled experience. Our challenging academic programs, myriad of extracurricular activities, and superb facilities are all made possible because of you. Thank you for ensuring that St. Mark’s remains a place where boys can be themselves, develop respect for others, and learn what it means to be a man of true character and integrity.
