Jan Holtberg Reading Room Dedicated

On Saturday, April 16, 2016, alumni and guests gathered to witness the dedication of the Jan L. Holtberg Reading Room on the second floor of Centennial Hall. The dedication was made possible by the Sarah and Ross Perot, Jr. Foundation, who wished to honor a woman they had worked so closely with throughout the years. During Arnie Holtberg’s two-decade tenure as the headmaster, his wife Jan was a constant force working behind the scenes to strengthen the School’s mission. She hosted thousands of people at the Headmaster’s residence and was always on campus supporting “her boys” at games, plays, concerts, and competitions.

At the dedication, Eugene McDermott Headmaster David Dini addressed Jan, saying, “I have great appreciation for the sacrifice and commitment it takes to fill your role and you did so with such grace and devotion. It was always a pleasure watching you interact with and care for the boys and the School.”

The Reading Room is a focal point of campus life, providing an oasis for students between classes. On any given day, dozens of Marksmen can be found reading, writing, studying and occasionally catching up on their sleep. The room also offers the best vista on campus, overlooking the Path to Manhood statue, the Green Commencement Theatre, and the Perot Family Quadrangle.
