On the evening of Wednesday, December 2, 2015, alumni, trustees, and guests gathered on campus for the dedication of Graduate Hall. The redesigned study hall in the southeast corner of Centennial Hall features 169 linear feet of wall space with 36 custom wooden panels. Engraved on 19 of those panels are the 5,486 graduates of St. Mark’s and its predecessor schools from 1907 through 2015.
Eugene McDermott Headmaster David W. Dini thanked Wallace Hall ’80 and the Class of 1980 for both the determination and the generosity in making the dream of Graduate Hall a reality: “Just imagine a young Middle Schooler studying in this room, gazing at the names of those who have come before them and contemplating their future ahead of them.”
“This room is a visual representation of delayed gratification,” Wallace said, echoing St. Mark’s Statement of Purpose. “It illustrates the sacrifice of all the men whose names you see on the wall, their families, their teachers, and everyone who took part in their education.”
While more than half of the Graduate Hall panels are filled with names, 17 panels remain blank, ready to list future Marksmen. As students file in each day to study, Graduate Hall will serve as a legacy of the past and an inspiration for what lies ahead.
