After weeks of hard work, the Lower School surprised retiring Eugene McDermott Headmaster Arnie Holtberg with student art, songs, and gifts.
As the Headmaster entered the Lower School, he found the walls decorated with portraits of himself, each class taking a different artistic approach. Then, the students, teachers, and Mrs. Holtberg greeted and led him to the music room. There, the students presented "A Lower School Tribute to Mr. Holtberg," where each class presented a song tailored to the Headmaster.
The fourth grade sang "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," with adapted lyrics that included: "We will never forget you/You have a place in our hearts/Your talks in the Chapel have taught us all/Lessons you've learned from your years in baseball." The third grade sang a tribute to the tune of Austria (Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser), the second grade performed "So Long, Farewell" from The Sound of Music, and the first grade wished Mr. Holtberg farewell with "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow."
Finally, the Headmaster joined in with the entire Lower School for "All Things Bright and Beautiful."
