<i>The ReMarker</i> & Staff Receive National Honors

On November 16, 2013, The ReMarker student newspaper received its seventh Pacemaker award in eight years, the highest honor awarded by the National Scholastic Press Association.

 

The ReMarker was one of only 24 student newspapers across the country to be selected as a Pacemaker winner. Newspapers were judged by professional media representatives on coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, leadership on the opinion page, evidence of in-depth reporting, layout and design, and photography, art, and graphics.

 

Additionally, three students’ individual work received national honors:

 

Daniel Hersh ’13 – fourth in nation for Page One Design (November 2012).

 

Parker Matthews ’13 – fourth in nation for Feature Photograph.

 

Riley Graham ’14 – honorable mention for News Photograph and honorable mention for Environmental Portrait.

 

The editor of last year's ReMarker was Daniel Hersh ’13, now a student at Northwestern University. 

 

Alumni from the Class of 2013 who held key positions on the newspaper were Michael Doorey, Andrew Goodman, Paul Gudmundsson, Dylan Kirksey, George Law, Nic Lazzara, Parker Matthews, Rachit Mohan, Will Moor, Robbey Orth, Stephen Rambin, Alan Rosenthal, Henry Woram, and Noah Yonack.

Seniors  — Halbert Bai, Aarohan Burma, John Caldwell, Dylan Clark, Aidan Dewar, Tabish Dayani, Teddy Edwards, Andrew Gatherer, Charlie Golden, Vishal Gokani, Cole Gerthoffer, Riley Graham, Sam Khoshbin, Alexander Munoz, Nabeel Muscatwalla, Ryan O’Meara, and Ford Robinson.

 

Juniors —  Jacob Chernick, Matthew Conley, Cyrus Ganji, Richard Jiang, Alex Kim, Shourya Kumar, Vik Pattabi, Zuyva Sevilla, and William Sydney.

 

Sophomore — Corbin Walp.

 

Eighth grader — Will Forbes.

The ReMarker also received the national award for its 2005, 2009, and 2011 editions. Newspapers were named Pacemaker finalists in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010.

 

The Pacemaker yearbook finalists, for which the Marksmen is being considered, will be announced in January 2014.
