Kurt Eichenwald ’79 will be honored at Spring Alumni Dinner on Friday, April 19, as the 2013 Distinguished Alumnus. Father of three Marksmen, Kurt is a contributing editor to Vanity Fair and the author of four best-selling non-fiction books.
After graduating from Swarthmore College, Kurt began work as an intern with The Washington Monthly magazine, the first step on a long career that would find him writing for CBS News, The New York Times, The National Journal, and most recently Vanity Fair.
Kurt has investigated some of the most prominent stories of our generation, from corporate fraud to the war on terror. In 1995, he turned his investigation of the Prudential Bache Securities scandal into the best-selling book, Serpent on the Rock. Since then, he has written three more books including last year’s best-seller 500 Days, dedicated to Frank Jordan, his third-grade teacher. His books tell true-life stories with the thrilling pace and gravitas of a Hollywood drama. In 2009, his book TheInformant was adapted into a major motion picture starring Matt Damon and directed by Steven Soderbergh.
For his insight and knowledge, Kurt has been a featured guest on numerous major news programs and talk shows, including Anderson Cooper, Charlie Rose, The PBS NewsHour, Rachel Maddow, Morning Joe, The Oprah Winfrey Show and has been called to testify before the U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee.
