Three Publications Sweep Top Award
For the first time in the School's history, all three of its student publications received the top award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. The Marksmen yearbook, the ReMarker newspaper, and the Marque literary magazine were named as winners of the Gold Crown, the highest award given by the prestigious organization. The winners were announced at the CSPA's annual convention at Columbia University on March 22, 2013.
The ReMarker newspaper extended its Gold Crown streak to ten consecutive years — the longest successive streak by a secondary school in the 88-year history of the organization.
For the Marksmen, this is the yearbook's fifth straight Gold Crown designation and sixth in the past eight years.
The Marque, the School's literary magazine, also was named as a Gold Crown recipient, the first time since the 2007 magazine earned top honors.
Twelve journalism students and Ray Westbrook, Gene and Alice Oltrogge Master Teacher and advisor to the ReMarker and Marksmen, attended CSPA's annual convention in New York, where the awards were accepted by Dylan Clark ’14 (ReMarker), Matt Mahowald ’14 (Marksmen), and Zuyva Sevilla ’15 (Marque).
The Marque is overseen by Lynne Weber, Trustee Master Teacher.
