Yearbook Dedicatee Announced

Doug Brady is normally the first person you see on campus. As a campus safety officer and, before that, an off-duty Dallas Police Department officer, Brady has been a presence at St. Mark’s for nearly 30 years. From directing morning carpool and assisting visitors to patrolling campus and watching over events, Brady and his fellow Security Department teammates ensure St. Mark’s remains a secure and welcoming school.

On Saturday, May 10, the staff of the Marksmen yearbook honored Brady as their 2024 yearbook dedicatee.

The dedication reads in part, “Doug Brady is a physical manifestation of all of the values that St. Mark’s tries to instill in its students. He has not only served us with his knowledge and experience, but he has also transformed our lives with his compassion and concern.”

In a profile of Brady, Marksmen editor-in-chief Noah Cathey ’24 writes, “On a campus full of important names and engaging spirits, Brady has paved his own path of impact. He is as integral to mornings at 10600 as Middle School pick-up soccer games or coffee in the commons.”

Prior to St. Mark’s, Brady had a decorated career with the DPD, earning Officer of the Year (1996), the Medal of Valor and Police Shield awards. His work included eight years spent with the Dallas SWAT, time spent as a Central Patrol officer and undercover officer and a year in police communications.

Throughout his DPD career, Brady also served as one of St. Mark’s regular off-duty police officers. After retiring from the force in 2016, he was approached by fellow Dallas SWAT veteran and St. Mark’s Director of Security Dale Hackbarth and, in 2019, joined the St. Mark’s security department full-time.

The yearbook dedication tradition, dating back to 1950, is the only faculty award given by students. Members of the Senior Class nominate three faculty or staff members in the fall, with the final selection made by senior members of the yearbook staff.

Through the years, 68 individuals—including headmasters and benefactors, coaches and food service personnel, classroom teachers and department heads—have been honored.
