Ceramicists earn national recognition

Several St. Mark’s ceramicists recently earned national recognition for their incredible artwork.   
The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts accepted six works by Marksmen to its Annual K-12 Exhibition. Of the 1317 entries submitted nationwide, only 152 pieces were accepted to the Exhibition, which opens March 15-18 in Cincinnati, OH. 

The accepted pieces include: 

  • Henry Baxter ’23 – "Investi-gator" and "Fish Tank" 
  • Noah Norton ’23 – "Expendable"
  • Tyler Tang ’24 – "Black and White Peony Vase" 
  • Burke Gordon ’25 – "Entangled" 
  • Leo Scheiner ’25 – "The One That Got Away" 

Additionally, three ceramicists were honored by the regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers:

  • Henry Baxter ’23 – 2 gold keys for "Investi-gator" and "Fish Tank" 
  • Hans Hesse ’25 – 1 gold key for "Tree of Wisdom" and 1 silver key for "Face in the Fire"
  • Noah Norton ’23 – Honorable Mention for "Expendable" 

As gold key winners, Baxter and Hesse will move on to the national competition in March. All of the boys were taught under St. Mark's ceramics instructor Scott Zeigler.
