Marksmen Complete Eagle Scout Projects

This spring, Grant Jackson ’22 and Andrew Jin ’25 completed their Eagle Scout projects, an important step towards earning the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank awarded by the Boy Scouts of America. 

 

Each boy chose a special community activity for their Eagle Scout project. Grant conducted an interactive demonstration about digestion, dubbed “follow your swallow,” with the youth group from Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church. The middle and high school students made silicone digestive organs that were inserted into a simulated body cavity that Grant built. The students also learned how to suture and perform knot tying on hand-made suture pads.

 

“For my Eagle Project, I challenged myself to take the road less traveled by intellectually impacting a group of students about the digestive system, wanting to instill scientific knowledge into their minds that they would remember for a lifetime,” Grant said.

 

With the help of fellow Scouts, Andrew constructed a weather-resistant step at Dallas Shared Ministries that allows food pantry clients to more safely receive their food, especially since this process has moved outdoors during the pandemic.

 

“North Dallas Shared Ministries was my choice because it helped out neighborhoods very close to me,” Andrew said.

 

On June 10, Grant was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout after an Eagle Board review. Andrew is slated to go before the Board later this summer.

 

“The experience and memories you gain from Boy Scouts are unforgettable and will be with you for the rest of your life,” Grant said.

Grant and Andrew are part of Boy Scout Troop 730, which is chartered by St. Mark’s.
