Nearly two dozen St. Mark’s musicians earned a spot in the Texas Private School Music Educator Association’s (TPSMEA) 2021 All-State Choir, Orchestra, or Jazz Ensemble. Only a few hundred private school students in Texas qualify for All-State after submitting recorded auditions. This is even more impressive in a year when social distancing affected the ability to practice and perform. Across St. Mark’s campus, musicians could often be found practicing outdoors, singing or playing their instruments through masks, while always staying at least six feet apart.
“Every student has risen to the difficult task of becoming a performing choral ensemble when we cannot rehearse as a choral ensemble!” said Tinsley Silcox, Upper School Choir Director and Director of Libraries and Information Services. “They have socially distanced and sung outdoors, staying focused with distractions such as wind, mowers, leaf blowers, and the occasional errant frisbee.”
Congratulations to the following All-State musicians:
