    Beginning his St. Mark’s career in the Office of Admission, Dean Clayman transitioned to administrative posts in the Middle School office in 2012, first as assistant head. He then was appointed Middle School head in 2017, a position he currently holds. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Master of Arts degree from California State University-Dominguez Hills. Clayman started teaching as a member of the Teach for America Corps. While in southern California, he taught grades 1, 3 and 4 as well as serving a technology resource teacher and language acquisition specialist. Subsequently, Clayman served as the coordinator of professional development for school districts as well as for the Orange County Department of Education. Upon moving to Texas, Clayman served as a technology teacher, teacher of leadership and director of admission at independent schools in Dallas. He’s the father of two Marksmen, Sam ‘17 and Ben ‘18.

    About
     
    After a professional baseball career with the San Diego Padres farm team and the AAA Portland, Oregon Winterhawks, John Hunter came to St. Mark’s in 2008, where he currently serves as Middle School humanities teacher and head varsity baseball coach. Hunter earned his Master of Arts in Humanities degree from the University of Texas at Dallas and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Texas A&M University. After his baseball career, he transitioned to teaching and coaching, working at Arlington Martin High School and Keller High School before joining the Lions’ staff. Hunter is also the eighth grade class sponsor and eighth grade head soccer coach. A St. Mark’s parent (Blake ‘32) he received the Ackerman Character & Leadership Award in 2018.

    About
     
    Christopher Rutherford arrived at St. Mark’s in 2020 after previously teaching at Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles and at Colegio Los Nogales in Bogota, Colombia. He earned his B.A. from Occidental College and an M.A. from Claremont Graduate University. Rutherford teaches humanities, coaches baseball, sponsors the Baseball Club and serves as an eighth grade adviser.
