Holiday Planetarium Show

Due to high demand, new showtimes have been added on Wednesday, December 11, and Saturday, December 14.

St. Mark’s will host five holiday planetarium shows for the Dallas community on Wednesday, December 11, Thursday, December 12, and Saturday, December 14, 2019, in the Winn Science Center. Led by Dr. Stephen Balog, St. Mark’s Planetarium Director and Cecil H. & Ida Green Master Teaching Chair in Science, these shows will explore the Star of Bethlehem through stories, animations, and song. The Star has become an iconic symbol of the Christmas season, but what can astronomy teach us about this phenomenon? The Star of Bethlehem planetarium show presents all of the historical and scientific facts we know today in order to unravel this 2,000-year old enigma. After the program, Dr. Balog will lead a tour of the night sky, pointing out the constellations, planets, and other sights visible from Dallas. The St. Mark's Upper School Chorus will even make a special guest appearance, singing Christmas carols in a panoramic video filmed specially for the planetarium dome.

“This show combines historical and astronomical information of the Christmas story along with various facts concerning our calendar to guide audience members to make their own conclusions as to what the Star of Bethlehem was all about,” Dr. Balog said. “I’m excited to offer the Dallas community a chance to visit the Winn Science Center for what I hope will become a new holiday tradition.”
